(The name of this particular species is California Pipevine Swallowtail because it mainly feeds on the California Pipevine plant featured. ‘I’m always on the lookout for interesting species of butterflies and moths to use in design work, and I remember reading the story of a man (who happened to be an aquatic biologist) in California, rescuing the species from near extinction by creating a butterfly enclosure in his garden. They could feed and mate and do other butterfly-related activities without fear of predation. It also concentrated the population so they didn’t have to travel as far to reach a potential mate. The butterflies themselves are absolutely gorgeous.)
